004 Tullaghmedan House
Nestled among the rolling hills and farmland of Meath is a small rural site, surrounded by mature trees. The project is a new build, three bedroom home designed for a young couple. Inspired by traditional Irish farm buildings, the house takes shape as a collection of simple, connected volumes. Two mono pitch volumes, an entrance porch, a garden shed and a feature chimney are carefuly arranged to create a relaxed and informal layout that suits everyday living.
The living spaces are housed in the volume facing north, running parallel to the road. At the center is the kitchen, designed to be the heart of the home, opening directly onto a covered outdoor dining area and garden — perfect for entertaining or enjoying quiet moments outdoors. The bedrooms are located in the adjoining volume, providing privacy and a peaceful retreat.
The garden design will aim to close this square with sculpted terrain and densely planted trees creating an intimate outdoor room with a sense of enclosure.
Construction began in July 2025, with the house being built using traditional materials and methods: blockwork walls with a rendered finish, timber roof construction, and slate roof tiles — all carefully crafted by skilled local tradespeople.
This home reflects the clients’ desire for a space that is both connected to the landscape and perfectly suited to their lifestyle.
